Hey everyone — welcome to the wildest ride in Suburban Jersey Dad history!
A couple years back, we did what any sane suburban family would do… we bought 12 raw acres of steep, tree-covered mountain land in Upstate New York with big dreams of turning it into our off-grid escape. No experience clearing land. No heavy equipment (at first). Just a whole lot of YouTube tutorials, a few borrowed tools, and the famous family motto:
“If we can do it… anyone can do it!” 💪
What started as “let’s just clear a little path” quickly turned into bushwhacking through brush, dodging fallen trees, learning how to run a chainsaw without becoming a cautionary tale, and slowly carving out trails, campsites, and open spaces on our own. You’ll see the good, the bad, and the muddy — the moments we felt like total pros and the many more where we were clearly making it up as we went.
This isn’t a polished off-grid transformation show. This is raw, real, and often hilarious progress from a regular Jersey dad.
From hand-clearing dense woods and figuring out access roads to dreaming about future cabins, campfires, and maybe even a little self-sufficient slice of heaven — you’re along for every amateur mistake, small victory, and laugh-out-loud moment.
Whether you’re a fellow dreamer with a piece of land (or just wishing you had one), a hesitant DIYer who loves watching someone else go first, or you just enjoy seeing a family tackle something way bigger than their backyard… pull up a chair (or a stump).
We’re still very much in the middle of the story — and we’d love for you to come along.
